A brief overview of Laubrass Inc. : Efficient Measurement and Quality Audits since 1993

Founded on November 17, 1993, Laubrass specializes in the design, manufacturing and distribution of products and software aimed at optimizing production lines and administrative processes, and at facilitating various forms of data capture.

Laubrass also provides consulting services to businesses that wish to evaluate their level of productivity. Working closely with other reputable firms, Laubrass is involved in implementing world-class tools such as Kaizen, Kanban, TPM, SMED, 5S, Six Sigma and other continuous improvement projects.

Holding a Bachelor degree in Engineering and a Master's degree in Business Administration (M.B.A.), Charles started his career as Project Engineer at G.E. Canada, where he gained a solid technical reputation. Actively involved in the start-up of a G.E. Canada aeronautical plant, he held the positions of Maintenance and Production Supervisor. He was then asked to join Alcan to head the Engineering and Maintenance Technical Support Department at its Grande-Baie plant. He managed the Manufacturing Group for all Quebec pouring centers before becoming Senior Consultant for the Organization and Methods Group where he acquainted himself with the various improvement tools (continuous improvement, re-engineering, Kaizen, 5S, 6 sigma, SMED and TPM).

How to create and maintain efficient processes

The globalization of the marketplace makes it vital for businesses to become increasingly competitive and well organized. For example, two similar sized companies who manufacture a similar product and who are both established in the same part of the country will have very similar production costs (same supply costs for raw materials, same labor costs, etc.). The main difference between the two companies resides in their respective manufacturing methods and in the way that they organize work and work-related tasks.

These two factors could make the difference between the success and failure of a company. When looking at all work-related processes, whether they are production or administration, we find value added (VA) activities and non-value added (NVA) activities. A value added activity is defined as being an activity (operation or service) for which customers are prepared to accept the costs (examples: welding, folding, milling). On the other hand, a non-value added activity is, from the point of view of the customer, unnecessary and even pointless (examples: waiting periods, delays, transportation).

By minimizing your non-value adding activities, you can maximize value adding activities, thereby increasing your productivity.
